What should I consider when purchasing a bowling ball?

I usually bowl for fun, but recently I started to improve my form and bowl competitively. After researching about bowling balls, I have concluded with the Storm Tropical Storm (Indigo/Ivory) and the Power Groove as beginner hook balls. What should I consider when purchasing either or? Which is best? Any other recommendations?
